A fast and indulgent single-serving mug cake featuring a molten Nutella center, perfect for a quick chocolate fix without the fuss of baking a whole cake.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 tablespoons (30 grams) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons (10 grams) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons (37 grams) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3 tablespoons (45 ml) milk (whole or 2%)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) vegetable oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon Nutella

Instructions

  1. In a microwave-safe mug, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir until evenly mixed.
  2. Add milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Stir thoroughly until smooth and lump-free.
  3. Place 1 tablespoon of Nutella in the center of the batter without stirring it in.
  4. Microwave on high for 70-90 seconds, starting with 70 seconds and adding 10-second increments if needed, until edges are set and center is gooey.
  5. Let the mug cake rest for about 1 minute to allow the lava center to settle.
  6. Enjoy warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Watch the microwave closely to avoid overcooking, as microwaves vary. Use room temperature ingredients for smooth batter. Do not stir Nutella into batter to keep molten center. Adjust milk or flour to achieve desired batter consistency. For oven baking, use a small ramekin at 350°F for 10-12 minutes.
