This Best Buffalo Chicken Super Bowl Dip Bread Bowl is the ultimate game day snack. It’s a crowd-pleasing, cheesy, spicy dip served in a crusty sourdough bread bowl that gets devoured before halftime.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken works great)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup buffalo wing sauce (Frank’s RedHot recommended)
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing (or blue cheese dressing)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 large round sourdough bread loaf (about 1.5 lbs)
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (for butter)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the bread bowl: Using a serrated knife, cut a circle about 2 inches from the edge of the top of the sourdough loaf at a slight angle to create a lid. Lift the lid off and set aside. Gently pull out the soft bread from the inside of the loaf, leaving a 1-inch thick wall all around. Save the bread pieces for dipping.
  3. Mix the cream cheese base: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with a hand mixer or spatula until smooth and creamy.
  4. Add the wet ingredients: Pour in the buffalo wing sauce and ranch dressing. Mix until well combined and uniform in color.
  5. Fold in the chicken and cheeses: Add the shredded chicken, mozzarella, cheddar, crumbled blue cheese (if using), garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Fold until evenly coated.
  6. Assemble the bread bowl: Place the hollowed-out bread loaf on a baking sheet. Spoon all of the buffalo chicken mixture into the bread bowl, packing it down gently. Place the bread lid next to the bowl on the baking sheet.
  7. Brush with garlic butter: In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder. Brush the outside of the bread bowl and the top of the lid generously with the garlic butter.
  8. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the dip is hot and bubbly and the bread is golden brown and crispy. If the top browns too quickly, tent loosely with foil for the last 5 minutes.
  9. Garnish and serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for about 5 minutes. Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the top. Place the bread lid back on top or serve alongside for dipping.

Notes

For a crispier bread bowl, toast the hollowed-out bread in the oven for 5 minutes before adding the filling. If the dip seems runny, pat the shredded chicken dry with a paper towel. Let the dip rest for 5 minutes after baking to allow flavors to meld and cheese to set slightly.
