Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (240 grams) all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (113 grams) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • ¾ cup (150 grams) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (110 grams) packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • ½ cup (120 ml) whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced (Fuji or Honeycrisp preferred)
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup (110 grams) packed brown sugar (for cinnamon swirl)
  • ½ cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade, thick enough to drizzle)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, ½ teaspoon salt, and 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, combine ½ cup melted unsalted butter, ¾ cup granulated sugar, and ½ cup packed brown sugar. Beat in 2 large eggs, ½ cup whole milk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth and creamy, about 2 minutes.
  4. Slowly add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, folding gently with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Gently fold in the diced apples.
  6. In a small bowl, mix ½ cup packed brown sugar with 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon for the swirl.
  7. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the bottom of the prepared loaf pan.
  8. Spoon half of the batter over the cinnamon sugar layer and smooth gently.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon sugar mixture over the batter.
  10. Spread the remaining batter over the swirl layer and gently swirl the layers together with a butter knife or skewer to create a marbled effect.
  11. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Check at 50 minutes to avoid overbaking.
  12. Let the bread cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
  13. While still warm, drizzle ½ cup caramel sauce over the top to allow it to seep in.

Notes

Do not overmix the batter to avoid dense bread. Use firm apples like Fuji or Honeycrisp for best texture. Drizzle caramel when bread is warm but not hot to prevent melting off. Check baking at 50 minutes and tent with foil if browning too fast. Pat apples dry if they release excess juice to avoid sogginess.
