A hearty and spicy comfort food dish featuring a creamy buffalo chicken dip stuffed inside a hollowed-out sourdough bread bowl, baked until golden and bubbly.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large sourdough bread loaf (dense, crusty boule, slightly stale)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 oz block cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup hot sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot)
  • 1/2 cup full-fat ranch dressing
  • 2 cups shredded chicken (rotisserie or boiled)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup blue cheese crumbles (optional)
  • 2 stalks green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cut off the top third of the sourdough loaf to create a lid. Carefully hollow out the inside, leaving a 1-inch thick wall. Tear removed bread into chunks.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, softened butter, hot sauce, and ranch dressing. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  4. Fold in shredded chicken, mozzarella cheese, and blue cheese crumbles until just combined.
  5. Brush the outside of the bread bowl and the lid with melted butter. Lightly brush the inside.
  6. Spoon the chicken mixture into the bread bowl, mounding it slightly. Place on the baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the bread is golden brown and the dip is bubbly.
  8. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes before garnishing with green onions and serving.

Notes

Use dense, slightly stale sourdough for better structural integrity. Ensure cream cheese is fully softened to avoid lumps. Let the dip rest for 5 minutes after baking to allow it to thicken. Store leftovers separately to prevent the bread from getting soggy.
