A festive Halloween appetizer featuring creamy deviled eggs topped with olive spiders. This easy-to-make dish is perfect for parties and transforms a classic recipe into a spooky, crowd-pleasing treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 large eggs, hard-boiled and peeled
  • 1 cup high-quality mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 large green olives, sliced into rings
  • 8 small wooden toothpicks
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Boil eggs in a saucepan covered with cold water. Bring to a boil, remove from heat, and let sit for 12 minutes. Cool in an ice bath for 10 minutes.
  2. Peel the eggs under running water, pat dry, and slice in half lengthwise. Scoop out yolks into a medium bowl and place whites on a serving platter.
  3. Mash yolks with a fork until fine. Add mayonnaise, mustard, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy. Adjust consistency with milk or more mayonnaise if needed.
  4. Transfer filling to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe a generous swirl into each egg white.
  5. Cut olive slices in half to create circles for spider bodies. Cut four pairs of legs from thin strips of olive or leftover egg whites.
  6. Insert a toothpick into the center of each olive body. Attach the legs to the toothpick, spreading them out like spider legs.
  7. Place an olive spider on top of each deviled egg. Adjust legs for a natural look.
  8. Dust tops with extra paprika and brush egg whites lightly with melted butter for a glossy finish.
  9. Chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use eggs that are about a week old for easier peeling. Ensure the filling is chilled and firm before adding spiders to prevent them from sinking. If the filling is too dry, add more mayonnaise; if too thin, add more mayonnaise or less liquid. For a vegan version, use dairy-free mayonnaise and avocado instead of eggs.
