A quick and easy recipe for crescent roll-ups filled with ham and sharp cheddar cheese, perfect for a satisfying lunch or snack.

  • 1 can (8 oz / 227 g) crescent roll dough, refrigerated
  • 6 oz (170 g) thinly sliced ham (leftover or deli ham)
  • 1 cup (100 g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley or chives (optional)
  • Black pepper to taste (freshly ground if possible)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a clean surface and separate into 8 triangles along the perforations. Lightly dust with flour if dough is sticky.
  3. In a small bowl, mix melted butter with Dijon mustard. Using a pastry brush, lightly spread this mixture on each triangle.
  4. Place a slice or two of ham on the wider end of each triangle, then sprinkle about 2 tablespoons (20 g) of shredded cheddar over the ham. Add a pinch of black pepper and chopped herbs if desired.
  5. Starting from the wide end, gently roll each triangle toward the point, not too tight to keep cheese gooey inside.
  6. Place the roll-ups seam side down on a prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with any leftover butter-mustard mixture.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until crescent rolls are puffed and golden brown and cheese is bubbly.
  8. Let the roll-ups rest for about 2 minutes before serving.

Notes

If edges brown too fast, tent with foil halfway through baking. Can add thin slice of pickle or honey mustard inside for variation. For gluten-free, use gluten-free crescent dough. For dairy-free, substitute butter with olive oil and use dairy-free cheese. Roll dough not too tight to avoid cheese leakage. Leftovers store well in fridge up to 3 days; reheat in oven for best texture. Freeze unbaked roll-ups on tray then transfer to freezer bag; bake from frozen adding 5 minutes.
