A quick and easy homemade snack using English muffins, tomato sauce, and cheese, perfect for beginners and ready in about 5 minutes.

Ingredients

  • English muffins (preferably whole wheat, split in half)
  • Tomato sauce (about 2 tablespoons per muffin half)
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese (about 1/4 cup per muffin half)
  • Mini pepperoni slices (optional)
  • Sliced black olives (optional)
  • Diced bell peppers or onions (optional)
  • Dried oregano or Italian seasoning (a pinch, optional)
  • Olive oil (a light brush on muffins before toasting, optional)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your toaster oven to 375°F (190°C). If using a conventional oven, set it to broil and prepare a baking sheet lined with foil.
  2. Split the English muffins horizontally with a serrated knife to get even halves.
  3. Lightly toast the muffin halves in the toaster oven or toaster until golden brown.
  4. Optionally brush a thin layer of olive oil on each toasted muffin half.
  5. Spread about 2 tablespoons of tomato sauce evenly over each muffin half.
  6. Sprinkle about 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the sauce.
  7. Add your favorite toppings like pepperoni, olives, or peppers.
  8. Place the topped muffins on the baking sheet or toaster oven tray and bake for 4-5 minutes until the cheese melts and bubbles.
  9. Remove carefully with tongs or spatula and let cool for a minute before serving.

Notes

Toast the English muffins before adding toppings to prevent sogginess. Avoid overloading with sauce or cheese to maintain a crispy base. Use fresh toppings when possible. For extra bubbly cheese, switch to broil in the last minute but watch closely.
