Easy Mummy Crescent Hot Dogs Recipe with Perfect Mustard Drizzle Eyes

mummy crescent hot dogs - featured image

A quick and festive Halloween snack featuring smoky hot dogs wrapped in flaky crescent dough with tangy mustard eyes that bring these playful mummies to life.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 ounces or about 226 grams) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 8 regular size hot dogs (beef, turkey, chicken, or plant-based)
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard for drizzling the eyes
  • Cooking spray or butter for greasing the baking sheet
  • Optional: ketchup or black sesame seeds for alternative eyes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough onto a clean surface. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the dough lengthwise into thin strips about 1/4 inch (6 mm) wide.
  3. Wrap each hot dog with the crescent dough strips, leaving a small gap near the top for the ‘face’ area. Overlap strips slightly without wrapping too tightly.
  4. Place the wrapped hot dogs evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until the dough is golden brown and slightly puffed. If pale, bake 2-3 minutes longer, watching carefully.
  6. Remove from oven and let cool for 2-3 minutes to set the dough.
  7. Apply mustard drizzle eyes using a small piping bag or a zip-top bag with a tiny snip in the corner, dotting two eyes near the exposed ‘face’ area of each mummy.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Use cold crescent dough for easier slicing and wrapping. Keep dough strips thin and do not wrap too tightly to allow puffing. If dough becomes sticky, chill briefly. For a shinier finish, brush dough with beaten egg before baking (optional). Mustard eyes can be piped with a small bag or dotted with a toothpick. Leftovers reheat best in oven to maintain crispiness. Variations include vegan dough and hot dogs, alternative eyes with cream cheese and black sesame seeds, and air fryer baking at 350°F for 10-12 minutes.
