Easy Mummy Hot Dogs with Mustard Eyes: 3-Ingredient Halloween Snack

Easy Mummy Hot Dogs - featured image

A fun and spooky Halloween snack featuring hot dogs wrapped in crescent roll dough with mustard eyes. This simple, foolproof recipe is perfect for picky eaters and busy weeknights.

Ingredients

  • Refrigerated Crescent Roll Dough or Pizza Dough
  • Hot Dogs (Franks)
  • Yellow Mustard
  • Black Food Coloring mixed with water OR Olive Oil/Soy Sauce for pupils
  • Butter (Optional, for brushing)
  • Sesame Seeds or Poppy Seeds (Optional, for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the dough. If using crescent rolls, separate triangles. If using pizza dough, divide into portions. Roll each portion into a long, thin strip about 1 inch wide.
  3. Place one end of a dough strip at one end of a hot dog. Wrap the dough around the hot dog in a spiral, leaving small gaps to mimic bandages. Leave the ends exposed and tuck the dough ends under to secure.
  4. Use a toothpick to poke two small holes for eyes. Squeeze a tiny dot of yellow mustard into each hole. Use a toothpick dipped in black food coloring or soy sauce to add a pupil in the center.
  5. Place wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between them. Optionally brush with melted butter.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and puffed up. Rotate the pan halfway through for even browning.
  7. Let cool for 2-3 minutes on the pan before serving warm.

Notes

Let dough sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before unwrapping to prevent tearing. Do not wrap dough too tightly as the hot dog needs room to expand. If mustard is too runny, mix with a drop of water. For gluten-free options, use GF crescent dough or soaked rice paper. For vegan options, use vegan hot dogs and dough. Reheat leftovers in the oven at 350°F for 5-7 minutes; avoid microwaving to prevent sogginess.
