A playful and easy peanut butter sandwich shaped like starfish, perfect for kids’ snack boxes. Quick to prepare and customizable with optional ingredients like honey, banana, and jam.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices of soft white or whole wheat sandwich bread (crusts removed)
  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional)
  • 1 ripe banana, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons jam or jelly (strawberry or grape recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine, softened (for toasting, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace: Lay out bread slices on a clean cutting board and get peanut butter, honey, and other ingredients ready. (5 minutes)
  2. Mix peanut butter and honey in a small bowl until smooth (optional). If skipping honey, use plain peanut butter. (2 minutes)
  3. Spread a generous layer of peanut butter (or peanut butter-honey mix) evenly over half of the bread slices, about 1 tablespoon per slice. (3 minutes)
  4. Spread a thin layer of jam or arrange banana slices evenly on the other half of the bread slices. Avoid overloading. (3 minutes)
  5. Assemble sandwiches by placing jam or banana-covered slices atop peanut butter slices, pressing lightly. (2 minutes)
  6. Cut sandwiches into starfish shapes using a starfish cookie cutter. Wiggle gently if needed. Save leftover crusts for other uses. (5 minutes)
  7. Optional toasting: Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat. Lightly butter the skillet or brush sandwiches with softened butter. Toast each sandwich 1-2 minutes per side until golden and slightly crisp. Watch carefully. (6 minutes)
  8. Pack starfish sandwiches neatly into a lunchbox or snack container. Add extra banana slices or carrot sticks for a balanced snack. (2 minutes)

Notes

Use soft, fresh bread for easier cutting. Creamy peanut butter spreads better than crunchy. Light toasting adds texture and prevents sogginess. If peanut allergy exists, substitute with sunflower seed or almond butter. Wrap sandwiches well if preparing ahead and store in fridge up to 24 hours. Avoid freezing. Warm slightly before serving if desired.
