A quick and easy 5-minute latte made with brown sugar, cinnamon, and creamy oat milk. This healthier version of a coffee shop favorite is perfect for busy mornings, offering a cozy indulgence without the sugar crash.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (240 ml) hot brewed coffee or espresso
  • ½ cup (120 ml) unsweetened oat milk
  • 1 tablespoon (12 g) packed brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: Cinnamon stick or star anise for garnish

Instructions

  1. Brew your coffee or espresso. Start with 1 cup (240 ml) of hot, freshly brewed coffee. If using espresso, pull a double shot (about 2 ounces or 60 ml) and top with hot water to reach 1 cup total.
  2. Combine the sweeteners and spices in your mug. In your serving mug, add 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar, ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract, and a tiny pinch of salt. Mix together with a spoon.
  3. Heat the oat milk. Pour ½ cup (120 ml) of unsweetened oat milk into a small saucepan. Warm over medium heat for about 2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until steaming but not boiling (around 150°F or 65°C). Alternatively, microwave in a microwave-safe mug for 45–60 seconds.
  4. Froth the oat milk. Using a handheld frother, place it just below the surface of the warm oat milk and move up and down gently for 20–30 seconds until doubled in volume and foamy. Alternatively, pour warm milk into a jar, seal, and shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
  5. Pour the hot coffee over the sweetener mixture. Slowly pour your brewed coffee into the mug with the brown sugar and cinnamon. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved (about 10 seconds).
  6. Top with frothed oat milk. Gently pour the frothed oat milk over the back of a spoon into the coffee, leaving about ½ inch of foam on top.
  7. Garnish and serve. Sprinkle a tiny pinch of cinnamon on top of the foam. Add a cinnamon stick or star anise if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, use room-temperature oat milk for better frothing. If brown sugar isn’t dissolving, ensure coffee is piping hot. For a maple syrup version, use 2 teaspoons maple syrup added after the coffee. The sweetener mixture (brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, salt) can be pre-mixed and stored at room temperature for up to a week.
