A festive and easy-to-make dark chocolate bark shaped like graduation caps, decorated with edible gold drizzle and optional toppings. Perfect for celebrations and last-minute party treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz (340 g) good-quality dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa)
  • 2 tbsp edible gold drizzle (gold-colored white chocolate melts or edible gold dust mixed with vegetable oil)
  • 1 tsp sea salt flakes (e.g., Maldon sea salt)
  • 1/2 cup mini marshmallows (optional)
  • 1/3 cup crushed pretzels (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Black food coloring or black cocoa powder (optional, for darker cap look)

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Melt the dark chocolate using a double boiler or microwave in 20-second bursts, stirring often until smooth. Avoid water contact to prevent seizing.
  3. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to enhance flavor.
  4. Pour melted chocolate onto the prepared sheet and spread into a rectangle about 1/4-inch (6 mm) thick using an offset spatula or butter knife.
  5. Chill the bark in the fridge for about 5 minutes until slightly set but still pliable.
  6. Use a knife or cookie cutter to outline and gently score graduation cap shapes. Optionally dust edges with black cocoa powder for a deeper color.
  7. Fill a piping bag or zip-top bag with edible gold drizzle and lightly drizzle over the bark in thin lines to mimic tassels and cap edges.
  8. Sprinkle sea salt flakes, mini marshmallows, or crushed pretzels over the bark while the chocolate is still soft enough to hold them.
  9. Refrigerate the bark for at least 30 minutes until completely firm.
  10. Break the bark into pieces along scored lines or into irregular chunks.

Notes

Avoid water contact with chocolate to prevent seizing. Use a piping bag with a small tip for precise gold drizzle. Let the bark sit at room temperature briefly if chocolate appears dull before chilling again. Store in airtight container for up to 2 weeks or freeze up to 3 months.
